Luton Town have extended their lead at the top of League One to nine points after a late 1-0 win over Walsall at Kenilworth Road.
Kevin Nicholls's penalty with two minutes remaining gave Mike Newell's side all three points in Bedfordshire, as The Saddlers were denied a point.
Despite having their coach break down on the M1 on their way to Luton earlier in the day, Paul Merson's side looked on course for a goalless draw before late events conspired against them.
Luton's lead was widened after Hull City needed a late Delroy Facey goal with four minutes remaining to earn a 1-1 draw at struggling Milton Keynes Dons.
Danny Wilson's side might have thought they were on their way to an important win after Dean Lewington had given them the lead five minutes after the break, but Facey made sure The Tigers took a point from The National Hockey Stadium.
Tranmere Rovers pulled closer to second place Hull after a fine 3-0 home win over Peter Jackson's Huddersfield Town.
First half strikes from Eugene Dadi (16) and Iain Hume (24) gave Rovers a two-goal lead at the break and Gareth Roberts sealed victory with a third in the final stages at Prenton Park.
Hartlepool United exacted revenge for their FA Cup exit to Brentford with a 3-1 victory over Martin Allen's side at Victoria Park.
All the goals came in the second half, with The Bees taking the lead through Isaiah Rankin five minutes after the break.
Adam Boyd then equalised from the penalty spot four minutes later before Eifion Williams made it two with 16 minutes remaining.
Antony Sweeney made it three with three minutes left, as Neale Cooper's side cemented their place in the League One play-offs.
Bournemouth remain sixth after seeing off struggling Torquay United 3-0 at Dean Court.
Shaun Maher gave The Cherries a half time lead before a Garreth O'Connor penalty made it two three minutes after the break.
Steve Fletcher ensured that Sean O'Driscoll's side took the three points with a third goal six minutes from time.
Bristol City heaped more misery on struggling Oldham Athletic with a 5-1 hammering at Ashton Gate.
A brace from the prolific Leroy Lita, along with single strikes from Luke Wilkshire (45), Steve Brooker (52) and a Guy Branston own goal, gave Brian Tinnion's side their second straight victory.
Will Haining scored a second half consolation for The Latics.
Doncaster Rovers are three points adrift of the play-off places after a 4-0 thrashing of Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Belle Vue.
Two goals from Gregg Blundell (16, 31), John Doolan (69) and Paul Green (84) gave Donny an easy win, as The Tykes played most of the match with ten men after Tony Vaughan was sent off for serious foul play in the first half.
Keigan Parker's late goal gave Blackpool a dramatic 2-1 win over Bradford City at Bloomfield Road.
Keith Southern gave The Seasiders the lead just after the break before Andy Cooke levelled matters on 54 minutes for the visitors, but Parker proved Blackpool's hero late on.
Chesterfield came from a goal down to defeat bottom club Stockport County 2-1 at Edgeley Park.
Warren Feeney had put The Hatters into the lead just before the break, but Mark DeBolla equalised six minutes after half time for The Spireites.
The visitors won the contest with nine minutes left when Mark Allott found the back of Stockport's net for the winner.
Finally, Wrexham earned a 2-2 draw with Colchester United at The Racecourse Ground.
Following a goalless first half, Mark Jones gave The Dragons the lead five minutes after the break before Neil Danns levelled matters on the hour mark for The U's.
Wayne Brown gave Colchester the lead on 71 minutes, but Hector Sam made sure the points were shared in North Wales with Wrexham's second ten minutes from time.
