Platt: Praise for manager
Colchester United striker Clive Platt believes Aidy Boothroyd's angry reaction to his side's home draw with Exeter City at the weekend is typical of the manager's winning mentality.
Platt equalised twice in the 2-2 draw at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, ensuring the Us at least took a point, but Boothroyd never celebrated the second, and that came as no surprise to Platt.
He told skysports.com: "This gaffer has set us such high standards, and our home form has been so good that we really expected to win the game.
"That's no disrespect to Exeter, who adapted to the conditions far better than we did and absolutely dominated the first half, but to be honest we expect to beat everyone we play, especially at home.
"So while it was maybe a point won in the end given that we never performed so well, the boss believes in winning football matches. Perhaps we've played well in the past under other managers but the focus hasn't been so much on winning, and that's the difference now."
The point took Colchester into third place in League Two, above Platt's old club, MK Dons, and just three behind Charlton Athletic in the second automatic promotion spot.
As for his own form, Platt was delighted to score twice against Exeter, his first goals in the league since the opening day of the season.
He said, "It's been a while, although I've scored a few in the cups, but the gaffer's been brilliant with me and has always said I've got a big part to play.
"I'm playing up front with Jay [Kayode Odejayi] and he says he's happy with the partnership.
"Still though, it's always good to get back on the scoresheet."
