Colchester manager John Ward felt a draw was a fair result against Leyton Orient, who left it late to score the equalising goal.

Jimmy Smith's stoppage-time equaliser earned League One's bottom side a 1-1 draw against the U's, who had taken a first-half lead through Anthony Wordsworth in Saturday's clash at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

"We didn't play as well as we did in the first half and they lifted their game - it happens in football," said Ward. "We couldn't find a goal but they got one right at the death and we can't deny them that. We were hoping to build on our lead but then half-time came and that's what people kind of forget.

"They think you can just carry on but the game stops and it's always awkward to pick yourself up. They have to come at us and if they don't, they look like losing the game.

"We had a good first half, they had a good second half and the game is a draw. We maybe got away with a penalty decision in the first half but there was maybe one for us in the second half.

"But the way the game has gone, I can't deny it being a draw."
