Carling Cup: Glory awaits
West Brom have been handed a trip to Bury in the first round of the Carling Cup, while Burton Albion travel to Reading.
The relegated Baggies are the only one of the three clubs who dropped out of the top-flight in May to take their place in the opening stage of the competition and face a testing trip to Gigg Lane.
Newly-promoted Burton Albion, who won the Blue Square Premier last term, will make the journey to the Madejski Stadium to meet the Royals.
Torquay United, who are back in the Football League after triumphing in the Blue Square play-offs, are also up against Championship opposition as they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Four-times League Cup winners Nottingham Forest have a home meeting with League Two Bradford, while Leeds United travel to the North East to tackle Darlington.

Lewis Frodsham (Arsenal fan) says...
What was Leeds' first priority last season if it wasn't promotion? :S Huddersfield are making a couple of smart signings and under Lee Clark might be able to achieve at least play offs. League one is going to be tougher for Grayson and his boys to get out of than last year.

some great ties in such an early round. i think exeter v qpr sounds the most interesting, exeter have had 2 fantastic seasons gaining back to back promotion, they may just have the edge over qpr.

Thomas Crawford, Graysons priority should be to make sure you don't get spanked for the 4th time in a row by Town. Hopefully you'll get in the play offs and i'll be able to watch you all crying on the tele again. Lee Clarks Barmy Army!!

Jon Irving (Leeds United fan) says...
I totally agree with previous comment from Mark Haigh. Winning promotion this year has got to be priority. Come on Mr Bates release some cash in order to increase our chances. Make Beckford and Delph better deals. The rest of English football recognises their undoubted quality.

Am a bit worried as a QPR fan living in Exeter, they are on a high and we never do well in this competition, possible banana skil, lets get Naomi Campbell down to St James Park to support the R's, I'll save her a seat.
