Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares has expressed his wish to extend his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Soares has made eight appearances for the Owls over the past two months and played the last game of his current spell in Saturday's 2-1 win over Peterborough United.

He is due to return to Stoke on Monday, but the 23-year-old has not featured in a Premier League fixture for the club since December 2008.

And Soares admits that, if he will again be on the fringes of Tony Pulis' plans at the Britannia Stadium, he would prefer a return to the Owls.

"Every player wants to play football," Soares told the club's official website. "I've got no doubt in my ability and coming here and playing for Wednesday is good for me.

"As a club, we're all starting to perform and hopefully we can climb that league table.

"Obviously if I go back to Stoke and I'm not playing I'd definitely like to come back.

"We'll have to sit down and have a word with Tony Pulis and see what happens from there, but I'm hopeful I can extend my stay here."

Since joining Stoke from Crystal Palace in 2008, Soares has made just 10 appearances for the club and had a stint on loan at Charlton Athletic last season.
