Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant has hailed the impact that new boss Alan Irvine has had on the side's fortunes.

The Owls have won all of Irvine's first three games after going without a win in three months under former chief Brian Laws.

However, Grant insists it is up to the players to make sure that their progress does not resemble the honeymoon period that often greets a new man at the helm.

"There haven't been any real drastic changes so far from the new gaffer, but every manager has their own style of both dealing with players and coaching methods, so it has been different to what we were doing under Brian and the lads have responded well," said Grant.

"That usually happens under a new manager though because it gives everyone a lift and something different to concentrate on, but it is up to us to make sure that these changes aren't just going to be within a honeymoon period."

The frosty conditions that wreaked havoc on football up and down the country earlier this month upset most clubs, but Grant believes the short break may have helped the Owls out a little after their frustrating end to 2009.

He added: "The club was in a state of flux slightly and it was good to get a new manager in quickly and get everyone settled before taking to the pitch again, so in that respect the cold weather did do us a favour.

"However, as players everyone wants to play as many games as possible and we wanted to haul ourselves out of trouble as quickly as possible, so although it had its benefits we would have preferred to play more games during that period."
