Darren Purse is convinced Sheffield Wednesday will come out on top against Crystal Palace in Sunday's relegation showdown.

The Owls are languishing in the bottom three ahead of the final game of the season, two points adrift of safety.

But they still have control of their own destiny as they know a home victory over Palace will secure survival and send the Eagles down instead.

Palace had the chance to avoid a nervy trip to Hillsborough but could only draw with promoted West Brom on Monday and Purse believes his team can make the most of their lifeline.

"We will be the ones who come off the pitch with our Championship status still in place," the Wednesday defender said.

"I think we shall be the team who stay up. We have the players in our team who can do it.

"I believe we are a good enough side, and I have not got any doubts that we can win it."

Pressure

Purse is just glad to still be in with a chance of survival after a disappointing first half to the season and is looking forward to such an important clash.

"If at Christmas we'd have known we would have this situation we'd have taken it," he explained.

"I have thought for the last few weeks that it was going to go down to the final game.

"You could not have got a better game to play in that this.

"There is going to be a lot of pressure - it is all about how we handle it.

"I am sure our lads will respond because they have played in front of big crowds before.

"It is going to be a fantastic occasion."
