Alan Irvine insists he is planning to stay on as Sheffield Wednesday manager irrespective of whether the club survive in the Championship.

The former Everton assistant manager took charge at Hillsborough midway through the season and has one last chance to keep the club in the second tier.

The Owls host relegation rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday and know three points will be enough to stay up, and condemn their opponents to the drop.

Ahead of the game, Wednesday chairman Lee Strafford has voiced his concerns that Irvine could be tempted by the offer of another job in the summer.

However, after rejecting interest from West Brom to stay at former club Preston last year, Irvine is adamant he will be remaining loyal to the Owls.

Loyal person

"My longer-term plans are all with Sheffield Wednesday," said Irvine, who was sacked by Preston in December.

"I'm a loyal person and if there's a chance of being successful somewhere, I will stay.

"Preston gave me my first opportunity as a manager and I felt I owed them something. With hindsight, it was probably a bad decision on my part and I've still not been given a reason why I lost my job.

"But it hasn't changed the way I am and the chairman is very appreciative. This is a fabulous club and I'm delighted to be given the opportunity."
