Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of Preston striker Neil Mellor.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier this week Wednesday have agreed a season-long loan deal for the former Liverpool man.

Mellor, who has been at Deepdale since 2006, will join former manager Alan Irvine and team-mate Chris Sedgwick at Hillsborough for next season.

The striker was placed on the transfer tlist by Darren Ferguson at the end of last season along with Richard Chaplow, Darren Carter, Michael Hart, Neill Collins, Stephen Elliot, Eddie Nolan and Neal Trotman.

Mellor is Wednesday's seventh signing of the summer and Irvine is delighted to bring in the striker.

"Neil is a player I know very well from my time at Preston and I am delighted to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday for the season," Irvine told the club's official website.

"We've worked really hard to bring Neil and all the other new players to the club and I'm very pleased with the business we have done.

"I'd be excited about the squad we have assembled for the Championship, never mind League One.
