Sheffield Wednesday have signed former Republic of Ireland striker Clinton Morrison on a free transfer from Coventry.

The 31-year-old becomes Alan Irvine's eighth summer signing as the Owls boss looks to plot an immediate return to the Championship after last season's relegation.

Morrison had been linked with a return to former club Crystal Palace, where he is held in high regard following his goalscoring heroics during two spells at Selhurst Park.

But the 31-year-old, who was out of contract at the Ricoh Arena, has instead opted for a move to Hillsborough.

Morrison has scored 151 goals in 413 professional starts in a career which also includes a £4.2million move to Birmingham in 2002 and 37 international caps.

He joins new arrivals Chris Sedgwick, Jon Otsemobor, Paul Heffernan, Daniel Jones, Giles Coke, Gary Teale and Neil Mellor at Wednesday.
