Alan Irvine was delighted with the football Sheffield Wednesday played in their 2-1 JPT win over Notts County.

An early brace from James O'Connor was enough to send the Owls through, but they created a host of chances in a convincing display.

Irvine said: "We started the game absolutely brilliantly. At times the football we played was fantastic and the game was played at a very good tempo.

"It should have been more comfortable, but we gave away a free-kick and didn't defend it well. There were two good goals from James and he nearly got a hat-trick. You can't blame him for trying to score late on. It was a good all-round performance from him.

"Everybody played well so I'm absolutely delighted. I want everybody playing well because they're all going to be needed."

Irvine revealed Chris Sedgwick limped out of the action with a groin injury. He added: "Right from early on, Chris was feeling his groin. He's the type of player who wants to play all the time, so you've got to really drag him off."
