Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Nicky Weaver has been ruled out for three months after having surgery on his injured knee.
The Owls goalkeeper, 32, flew out to America to consult his surgeon and will be sidelined until the new year.
Manager Gary Megson, who has ruled out making a loan signing, said: "The news on Nicky is not good, but it's no where near as bad as it could have been."
Richard O'Donnell has stepped up in Weaver's absence, while Arron Jameson has been named on the substitutes' bench in recent matches.
Megson added: "Richard has done very well for us, the save he made on Saturday from the lad [Dean] Bowditch when it was 2-1 was fantastic. We have three very good goalkeepers who are very similar, so we will be going with Richard."
Weaver, signed on a free transfer from Burnley in August 2010, is in his second spell at his hometown club having spent three months on loan during the 2005/6 season.
