Nerves on show at Highfield

By Planetfootball Staff

Nerves were to the fore at Highfield Road with Coventry only managing a 1-1 draw with Cardiff in one of the key relegation battles of the day.

Stern John handed The Sky Blues the lead 16 minutes in, but Lee Bullock levelled within three minutes to earn Cardiff a share of the points.

With both teams just outside of the bottom three this was billed as a six-pointer and both sides looked well aware that defeat could be a critical blow.

Coventry had started the livelier in front of their fans - and John went some way to alleviating himself from criticism with the opener.

With the ball bouncing in the box, Trevor Benjamin could not force the ball over the line, but John was on hand to bundle home and give his side a crucial opener.

However, City were guilty of letting their opponents get right back in the game, and allowed Bullock to level before Cardiff's heads could drop.

Bullock was given too much space in the box, but did superbly to flick his header across on-loan keeper Ian Bennett and into the back of the net.

Although they were roared on by the crowd, the second half proved frustrating for Coventry - who could not break down their opponents for the crucial winner.

A draw, in truth, does neither side any favours - and both will be anxiously looking over their shoulders at the relegation spots for the time being.
