Alexander attracting Sky Blues

Coventry City are thought to be keeping tabs on Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

The former Stenhousemuir and Livingston custodian's future at Ninian Park is in doubt after the Scot rejected Cardiff's most recent offer of a contract extension.

The 28-year-old's current deal expires in the summer, though Alexander has expressed a desire to remain with the Championship club beyond the current campaign.

Alexander's situation seems to have alerted The Sky Blues, and it remains to be seen if they will pursue their interest in the shot-stopper in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Bluebirds captain Darren Purse has come to the defence of under-fire manager Dave Jones.

Jones has been criticised after a poor run of results that has seen the South Wales club drop from the Championship's summit to third place in the table behind Birmingham City and Derby County.

"Dave Jones has only had about £1million to spend since he's been at the club - that shows what a good job he's done," said the former West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City centre-back.

"He's a fantastic manager and keeps coming up with excellent signings. The club are lucky to have him and he certainly doesn't deserve any criticism."
