Cardiff boss Dave Jones is urging Darren Purse to sign a new contract at Ninian Park.

The 30-year-old had been linked with a possible move away from the Championship club with Wigan reportedly keen to sign the defender.

However, Purse has now been offered a new deal by the Bluebirds and Jones is desperate for his skipper to sign on the dotted line.

"Darren has been a big part of things since I arrived in the summer of 2005 and you want stability," Jones told the club's official website.

"Darren wants to stay with us, and if he agrees an extension to his contract, then that will be great for us.

"He knows nothing is guaranteed in terms of a place in the team so he knows what is required of him."
