Purse urges Robbie caution

Darren Purse has urged Cardiff City not to break the bank to land former England international Robbie Fowler.

The former Leeds United striker is available on a free transfer after being released by Liverpool this summer.

Cardiff have offered the 32-year-old an 'attractive' deal and while Purse would welcome Fowler's arrival, he does not want the club to put their finances in jeopardy to seal the deal.

"He'd be a great signing for us, but it would cost a few quid," explained Purse to the South Wales Echo.

"You can not put the club in jeopardy to sign one player, you have to look at the bigger picture.

"The finances are all settled now - is it worth putting the club into jeopardy for one player?

"But if Robbie does end up coming here in the next couple of weeks, he'd be a great signing, and would take the club forward again."
