Schmeichel: Close to Cardiff deal
Cardiff City are on the brink of signing Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on a one-month loan deal.
Officials of the Premier League club have confirmed the move is '95 per cent done' with just the final stages of paperwork to complete.
The young Dane, who signed a new four-year contract with City in the summer, will go straight into the Cardiff squad for Saturday's match against Scunthorpe.
Schmeichel had been due to join Coventry but that deal collapsed earlier this week due to the club's financial problems, which have led to a transfer embargo from the FA.
Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson was quick to stress that Schmeichel was still a part of his plans at Eastlands.
He said: "This does not mean Kasper has no future here, he just needs to get some games."
The 20-year-old started the season as Eriksson's first choice, appearing in the opening seven games as his team made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign.
However, Schmeichel, son of Manchester United legend Peter, lost his place to England Under 21 star Joe Hart for the home win over Newcastle earlier this month and has now slipped down to third in the pecking order, behind Hart and Andreas Isaksson.
