Owen Garvan says it is now insignificant that he turned down a move to Brighton in the summer to stay with Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old opted to stay at Selhurst Park despite a fee being agreed between the Eagles and the Seagulls for the midfielder to move to the AMEX Stadium.

The Irishman has appeared in four of Palace's five Championship games this season, with Dougie Freeman's side moving up to sixth in the table after two consecutive seasons of relegation battles.

Brighton have also had an impressive start to the campaign and have won all but one of their games in the league, as Gus Poyet's side moved to the summit of the table.

Garvan scored in Crystal Palace's 2-0 win over Burnley in the second league game of the season and is playing down his rejection of Brighton in the summer.

He told South London Press: "It was one of those things. You've got a choice whether to go or not to go. I sat down, had a think about it and in the end I decided to stay.

"It's not unusual. It's the way football works. There are a lot of players that have teams come in for them - sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't.

"Brighton are doing really well - I wish them all the best. My only concern is playing and being in a winning team. That is my ultimate aim."
