Jim Magilton bemoaned Ipswich's poor away form after his side ended their Championship campaign with another victory at Portman Road.

Alan Lee's goal was enough for Ipswich to beat third-placed Hull 1-0 but results elsewhere kept them out of the play-offs.

Magilton accepted afterwards that he had to look at Ipswich's season as a whole, and pointed to his team's bad record on the road as the major reason for their eighth-placed finish.

Ipswich suffered just one league defeat at home, while on their travels they only managed to win three times.

"I think we were outstanding against a very good side. We wish Hull all the best in the plays-offs," Magilton told Sky Sports News.

"But it wasn't all about today. Our home record has been outstanding and if we had been a little bit better away from home we may have even been talking about automatic promotion."

Magilton is already looking ahead to next term and is confident Ipswich will come back even stronger.

"It gives me great hope. I'm ravenous now, I can't wait for next season. We'll regroup and lick our wounds.

"I know they are disappointed but we've got to take it on the chin and move on."
