Ipswich Town have confirmed that Ed Upson will stay at the club for at least another season.

The 19-year-old failed to make a single first-team appearance under previous manager Jim Magilton but has been handed a one-year contract by new boss Roy Keane.

Upson, a product of the Ipswich Academy who scored the winner in the 2005 FA Youth Cup final, completed a loan spell at Stevenage last year.

The midfielder admitted that he feared his time at Portman Road would be brought to an end when his contract expired this summer.

However, he is determined to make the breakthrough at senior level now he has been given another chance.

Strong

"It was a difficult season for me last year and I did think that I might have to move on but the new manager has come in and it's given me a massive boost that he has given me a new contract," Upson told the club's official website.

"I'd like to think that I stayed strong last season when things weren't going my way. I kept my head up and played my football and it was an education for me.

"Now I have to take the opportunity the manager has given me and show him what I can do and also show my team-mates what I can do.

"I need to really push on now from pre-season and try and force my way into the first-team here."
