Roy Keane believes adding quality rather than quantity to his Ipswich squad is the key to having a successful season next term.

Having had time to assess his playing staff since taking charge at Portman Road at the back end of April, Keane is now looking to work the transfer market.

The Irishman is confident four quality additions would put Ipswich on track to mount a promotion push and he is willing to be patient to make sure the right players are brought in.

"We are making progress with new signings, like lots of clubs, but these things take time and we need to be patient," he told the club's official website.

"It's an awkward time in that so many people in the game are away on holiday, or tied up on other matters but we are moving forward.

"We are not going to bring in seven or eight players to the club anyway. We are looking at maybe four additions and the owner and chief executive are working hard to try and achieve that but it takes time.

"It's a case of quality rather than quantity - I'll be happy if I get the four players I want but it's a big if and we are certainly not going to spend over what we consider to be the right valuation for the players.

"There is a danger that people might put a higher price tag on a player because they think we have money to spend. One or two people in football have said to me, 'you've got a few bob to spend' but that's not the case.

"We will have our valuations and work to them."

Speculation over the past few days has linked Keane with his former Manchester United team-mate Quinton Fortune.

The South African midfielder is currently at Belgian club Tubize but is thought to be available on a free transfer.

Hull City are also reportedly monitoring the versatile 32-year-old's situation.
