Ipswich Town midfielder Liam Trotter has ended doubts over his future by signing a new contract at Portman Road.

Trotter had been unsure if he would be staying with Town following the appointment of Roy Keane as the club's new manager.

He finished last season on loan at Scunthorpe United and was wanted back at Glanford Park by Iron boss Nigel Adkins.

However, Trotter has now agreed a one-year deal to stay with Ipswich and is eager to make an impression on Keane.

Big boost

"I spoke to the manager and he said he wanted me to stay here which was obviously a big boost for me," Trotter told the club's official website.

"I'll admit I was a bit surprised. At the end of last season I thought I would be moving on from Ipswich. I enjoyed my time at Scunthorpe and their manager wanted me to go there.

"But with a new manager here, it's a fresh start. The manager has said I'll get the chance to show what I can do and that's probably the major factor in me staying.

"I've not really progressed at Ipswich over the last year or two, but this is a new opportunity for me."
