Keane: Tough decisions
Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane has confirmed four players will be released in the summer, but Liam Trotter has been offered a new deal.
Experienced goalkeeper Richard Wright, defenders David Wright and Pim Balkestein, and young midfielder Ed Upson have all failed to earn fresh contracts at Portman Road.
Both Wrights are disappointed to be leaving the club in the summer and Keane acknowledged it was a tough decision to make.
"There have been some very hard decisions to make about good senior professionals, lads like David and Richard Wright who I have decided not to give new contracts," Keane told the club's official website.
"It doesn't mean I don't rate them. I do, just like I do with Pim. They will get fixed up with new clubs because they are good players, but I have the opportunity to make changes and take this club in another direction and that's what I've got to do."
Trotter has been offered a 12-month extension, but Keane expects the midfielder to have other options after his loan spell at Millwall.
Keane added: "I will be speaking to Liam and we have offered him a new deal.
"We've offered him a contract, but whether he signs it or not, we will have to wait and see because I'm sure he will have other options."
Shane O'Connor has been offered a new two-year deal, while Jack Ainsley, Reggie Lambe, Troy Brown and Ian McLoughlin have been rewarded with 12-month extensions.
