Ipswich boss Roy Keane is tipping Jon Walters to be a Premier League star of the future amid talk of a big-money offer from Stoke City.

The Potters have reportedly tabled a £4million offer for the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who has impressed for Ipswich this term.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is a firm admirer of the English-born Irish star having failed in a £3million bid two years ago.

Town manager Keane insists Walters is top-flight quality after impressing in what has been a difficult season for the Portman Road outfit.

"Jon deserves to be in the Premier League," said Keane. "He is a player of Premier League quality.

"He has done a terrific job for me in a difficult season. He has led by example. I've got so much time for Jon."

New deal

Meanwhile, Pulis insists talks to extend and improve winger Matthew Etherington's contract should be resolved in the near future.

Although Etherington has two years left on his existing deal Stoke are keen to reward the ex-Spurs man with more favourable terms.

"Matt's in talks at the moment and something should be done very soon," explained Pulis.

"He has an important part in play in the future of this club and he's definitely somebody we badly want to remain with us."
