Skysports.com understands Bristol City have made a bid for Ipswich Town striker Jon Stead.

Stead is out-of-favour at Portman Road having been sent out on loan to Coventry last season.

Huddersfield Town had been linked with an interest in the forward but a deal failed to materialise.

Bristol City, however, are believed to be in the running for Stead, with a bid in the region of £200,000 on the table.

Stead joined Ipswich from Sheffield United last summer and has since made 22 league appearances, scoring six goals.
