Brighton will be battling to keep hold of their spot at the top of the table when the Championship resumes with a jam-packed fixture list this weekend.

Gus Poyet's promoted Brighton travel to Bristol City on Saturday looking to extend their one-point lead at the helm, while the Robins are currently 17th in the standings after taking five points from as many games.

One side that could overthrow the Seagulls this weekend is Southampton, who host Nottingham Forest knowing three points could see them leapfrog Poyet's men at the top of the table.

Derby are in the same position, sitting level on points with the Saints but one place below on goal difference. The promotion-chasing Rams travel to lowly Coventry in Saturday's teatime encounter looking to bag a crucial three points.

At the other end of the table, Doncaster will be desperate to escape rock-bottom of the standings when they make the trip to Wales to take on Cardiff, having picked up just one point from their opening five games.

Middlesbrough are sitting pretty in fourth following an unbeaten start and will be keen to continue that streak when they visit Burnley at Turf Moor.

Struggling Reading have lost their last three games on the bounce, a trend they will hope to address when they entertain Watford, who are currently languishing in the bottom three and are without a win so far this season.

Stinging

Crystal Palace are unbeaten in four games to leave them sixth in the standings and travel to Elland Road to face a Leeds side likely to be stinging from their narrow 2-1 defeat to Ipswich last time out.

Relegated Blackpool have not won in three games and will be hoping to turn that around when they entertain Ipswich at Bloomfield Road.

Fresh from victory over Southampton last time out, Leicester travel to South Yorkshire to face Barnsley looking to build on their current spot in 10th.

West Ham go head-to-head with Portsmouth at Upton Park knowing a win and the right results elsewhere could propel them to the top of the table for the first time this term.

Peterborough will be keen to bounce back from their defeat at the hands of leaders Brighton when they host Hull City at London Road.

Finally, Sunday's sole encounter will see Birmingham and Millwall meet at St Andrews, with the relegated Blues currently perched on the edge of the relegation zone.
