Paul Lambert has signed a new improved contract at Norwich City after the League One champions were ordered to pay Colchester United £425,000 in compensation.

Norwich lured Lambert, along with Ian Culverhouse and Gary Karsa, from Colchester back in August, but the appointment had been the subject of an inquiry by the Football Disciplinary Commission (FDC).

A ruling has taken time to be reached, but the FDC has confirmed that Colchester are entitled to compensation of £425,000.

In addition, the Canaries have been fined £75,000, while a further sum of £125,000 is suspended for two years and that will only be activated if Norwich breach Regulation 20 again during that timeframe.

Regarding that matter, Norwich chairman Alan Bowkett told the club's official website: "We always wished to agree amicable terms of compensation with Colchester, but regrettably we were unable to do so.

"Norwich City always strives to develop and maintain good links with our fellow clubs, and it was disappointing that the two clubs could not find a way to see eye to eye on the issue of compensation.

"In the interests of moving on and focusing on football we will not be appealing the decisions.

"We look forward to putting this matter behind us, and to reflecting on the appointment of a management team that we are confident can continue its success in the coming seasons."

Fantastic job

The Canaries have also confirmed that Lambert, along with his assistant manager Culverhouse and head of football operations Karsa, has signed a new deal at Carrow Road.

Bowkett added: "Paul has done a fantastic job for us since joining in August and has played his full part in restoring some pride to Norwich City Football Club.

"There's been a lot of speculation linking him to other clubs and that's understandable as he is an excellent young manager with a competent and motivated coaching team backing him up.

"We're delighted he has signed a new deal and demonstrated his commitment to carrying on the job he has made such a fine start to here at Norwich."
