PERUGIA have announced the double signing of former Coventry City striker Jay Bothroyd and Lyon's Moroccan defender Djamal Alioui.

Bothroyd, 21, spent a few days on trial with the Serie A side and impressed manager Serse Cosmi enough to win a contract at the club.

After beginning his career as a trainee with Arsenal, Bothroyd moved to Highfield Road in 2000, making 83 appearances for The Sky Blues.

He netted 17 times during his spell with Coventry and was released by manager Gary McAllister at the end of last season, as the club look to cut the wage bill for next term.

He finished last term as the Midlanders' top scorer and will now look to develop his career further with the Italian club.

Alioui was targeted by Charlton boss Alan Curbishley three years ago but any move for the player was blocked by Lyon officials, as they saw the youngster as an important part of the club's future.

It appears that they have decided that the time is now right for the 21-year-old to move on to pastures new.

The twin signing continues Perugia's policy of recruiting talent from overseas.
