Robins expect Carey return

Bristol City are confident they will re-sign defender Louis Carey back from Championship club Coventry City.

The 28-year-old left Ashton Gate to join The Sky Blues on a free transfer in the summer, but Carey has become unsettled by the recent managerial upheaval at Highfield Road.

Coventry boss Micky Adams allowed the defender to speak with his former club on Thursday, with Carey set to re-join The Robins on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

He passed a medical with the West Country club and was ready to sign before a contractual hitch with Coventry halted the completion of his loan on Thursday.

The hitch is thought to be temporary and Brian Tinnion's side expect to have the former Ashton Gate trainee back in their squad in the near future.

Adams, meanwhile, explained how Carey was keen to move on from his short spell with the Midlands club.

"I believe that Louis was unsettled in the weeks leading up to my appointment," Adams told Coventry's official website.

"He came to me and said he would like to leave and I said fine.

"Any player who makes it clear to me that they don't want to play for Coventry City is free to leave."
