Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has admitted the club are unlikely to extend Elliott Ward's loan from Coventry.

Ward has proven a timely addition to O'Driscoll's squad, although he does not believe the club's finances will allow him to remain in Yorkshire.

The club's injury crisis has eased somewhat of late and O'Driscoll is hoping Shelton Martis will be fit enough to replace Ward after their game with Derby.

Ward's loan is due to expire following this weekend's Championship game with the Rams and the Rovers boss has been pleased with the loanee's displays.

Finances

"Financially we can't afford it," he told the club's official website. "We're hoping Shelton Martis will now be fit.

"Elliott has done really well for us and we would definitely be interested in the summer but at this point, again, you cannot know what you can and cannot do financially.

"If Shelton is fit, then the gap we had was plugged short-term to get one of our centre-halves fit and Adam Lockwood is looking okay at the minute and is back in contention.

"Touch wood, that mini-crisis seems to have eased somewhat."
