Mackay: Final flourish

The players went out after the game to say thank you to the supporters but if I had been a supporter, I would have gone. In fact, I would have gone before the end.

Watford boss Malky Mackay dedicated their 4-0 victory at Coventry to the club's travelling fans, while Chris Coleman apologised to the Sky Blues support.

The Hornets finally secured their first way win since October on the last day of the season as they demolished their out-of-form hosts at the Ricoh Arena.

Mackay's men claimed victory as Danny Graham bagged a brace and Henri Lansbury and Marvin Sordell also found the net, with Mark Halsey refereeing his first Championship match since entering remission in a battle against throat cancer.

"We came here aiming to get three points, push higher up the league and put a performance in - and we did all three," Mackay said.

Solid

"We've looked at a lot of away performances this year and a lot have merited a lot more than we've got.

"It was great to get that win - not just for us, but for our away supporters who have followed us all over the country.

"We had a structure about us and we were solid at the back.

"We weren't just cavalier. To a man, we were at it and we were resilient."

Embarrassing

Coventry boss Coleman was left fuming by the display and could only offer his apologies to the home supporters.

He said: "There were no positives to that, not one. It was an embarrassing end to the season for us. It was the worst possible way to go out.

"I'm doing something wrong - I am - but it's not all just me making mistakes as a manager. I've got a great staff who work very hard but we need to make changes and that was evident in the game.

"It is not good enough and I apologise. The players went out after the game to say thank you to the supporters but if I had been a supporter, I would have gone. In fact, I would have gone before the end."
