Westwood: Contract talks
Coventry chairman Ray Ranson has spoken of his priority of getting goalkeeper Keiren Westwood to commit to a longer contract at the club.
The highly-rated Irish international has just one more year to run on his current deal and has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League.
Ranson met with the keeper's agent on Tuesday to try to thrash out a new deal and the pair are to meet again this week as the Championship outfit prepare for life without former boss Chris Coleman, who was sacked on Tuesday.
Ranson told the Coventry Telegraph: "My focus on that side of things is to try to get Keiren Westwood on a new three-year contract and I am meeting his agent this week, so it doesn't stop for me.
"I'd like to think we can do it. I have got a mandate from the board to do it and Keiren wants to stay.
"We are seriously trying to do it within the budget, so unless he's asking me for £100,000 a week..."
Despite Coleman's sacking, Ranson is not planning wholesale changes at the club.
Instead, the Coventry chairman wants the next manager to come in and work with the staff already in place both on and off the field at the Ricoh Arena.
He added: "We have spent two years restructuring the club both at Ryton (the club's training complex), the Ricoh and the playing staff etc and to go in for wholesale changes would be ridiculous, so my recommendation to the board will be that we don't do that.
"We are looking for a guy who will come in and energise the players and work with the current staff and contracted players and add to them."
