QPR midfielder Martin Rowlands has stepped up his recovery from an horrific knee injury with another outing for the reserves.

The 31-year-old, who is club captain at Loftus Road, has been out of first-team action for the last 11 months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury last year.

But Rowlands played 70 minutes for Rangers' second string against Tottenham and could return to Neil Warnock's squad soon.

Rangers coach Marc Bircham is delighted with Rowlands' progress.

"It's brilliant," he said. "He's had a terrible time over the last couple of years with injuries.

"As a mate it's great to see him back.

"I hope he doesn't rush things, he has to take his time with this, get plenty of minutes under his belt for the reserves and then push on.

"It's all about getting match time. It will be great for Rowly and the team when he is available again."
