QPR manager Neil Warnock believes that his side's season starts on Monday when Newcastle United visit Loftus Road.

Rangers' return to the Premier League after a 15-year absence got off to the worst possible start, losing 4-0 at home to Bolton on the opening day of the season.

They bounced back with a surprise 1-0 win at Everton, before losing to Wigan, but with six new signings vying to make their debut against the Magpies, Warnock believes he now has a team capable of success.

Warnock said: "We lost Bradley Orr in the Carling Cup (against Rochdale) and I had to put a young kid in against Wigan and perhaps it was a few weeks too early for him."

Since then the Hoops have brought in Joey Barton, Anton Ferdinand, Shaun Wright-Philips, Luke Young and Armand Traore, as well as Jason Puncheon on loan.

"I'm glad the transfer window is gone and the international break has given the new lads a chance to settle in," added Warnock.

"Wigan got away lightly and I think if we had been steadier we could have won the game."

Having been allowed to leave St James' Park on a free transfer after criticising the clubs recruitment policy on Twitter, Barton could make his debut against his former club.

Warnock however is keen to downplay its significance, saying: "I think Newcastle is a great club, and the club is bigger than Joey Barton and the game is bigger than any individual.

"Both clubs have moved on and you have to stick by your decisions. They've not spent £100million like everybody wants them to but they've got good players in."
