New QPR signing DJ Campbell says playing for the West London outfit is a dream come true.

The boyhood Hoops fan was a trainee at Loftus Road before leaving for Aston Villa at the age of 16, but returned in a £1.2 million switch from Blackpool over the summer.

The 29-year-old notched his first goal for the club in last weekend's 3-0 win at Wolves and hopes to emulate the 13 goals he scored for Blackpool in the top-flight last season.

"I was here until I was 16 and it is a club that I have supported throughout my career, so to be here and scoring goals for QPR is a dream for me," Campbell told

"I used to watch the likes of Les Ferdinand scoring goals from the stands and now it has changed around and I'm the one on the pitch playing and scoring goals.

"It is a great time for me and one that I am cherishing because every football fan wants to play for their club."

He added: "I had a good season up at Blackpool last year and scored a lot of goals there in the Premier League and I'm looking to do the same again this season.

"There is a lot of expectation here with the calibre of players that are coming through the door, including myself, to exceed and that is what you want as a footballer."

Campbell's team-mate Jay Bothroyd, another summer arrival after joining from Cardiff in July, wants Rangers to turn Loftus Road into a fortress this season.

Neil Warnock's men have won twice on the road so far but are yet to claim a victory on home turf, something Bothroyd is eager to address when they entertain Aston Villa on Sunday.

"Villa are a really good side," Bothroyd told the London Evening Standard. "Although we're playing at Loftus Road, we want to impose our game on them.

"We want to make it a tough place for away teams to come."
