Clive Clarke's heart 'stopped twice' after he collapsed at The City Ground, according to the player's agent.

The on-loan Leicester City defender collapsed during half-time of the second round Carling Cup tie at Nottingham Forest.

Clarke's agent Gary Mellor has revealed that paramedics had to use a defibrillator before the Irishman was taken to hospital.

He is now recovering in hospital and is in a 'stable' condition as doctors examine what caused the problem.

"Clive is sitting up and talking and he is going to have more tests at the hospital," Mellor told BBC Radio Stoke.

"They won't give us any idea as to when he will be released. They don't want to tell us any more until they know exactly what happened.

"It appears Clive's heart stopped twice and mouth-to-mouth didn't work, so the paramedics had to use a defibrillator.

"His family are very upset, especially after what happened with the Sevilla player Antonio Puerta dying recently. We just hope he's going to be okay."

Puerta died on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack during Sevilla's Primera Liga game with Getafe last Saturday.
