Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is disappointed there is so much 'emphasis' on DJ Campbell's goalscoring form for Blackpool.

Campbell has barely featured for Leicester since Pearson took over as manager in 2008 and is currently enjoying a second loan spell with Championship rivals Blackpool.

He has scored seven goals in 13 appearances for the Seasiders this season and could help his loan club pip Leicester for a place in the play-offs.

Pearson understands why supporters may be frustrated by the form Campbell has shown elsewhere, but insists he had to let the striker go out on loan to free up space in his own squad.

Shame

"I understand people's frustration about the situation, but there isn't anything I can do about it," Pearson told the Leicester Mercury.

"It is done and gone so I am not going to waste any energy on a subject like that.

"He has gone there on loan and he was sent there at the time for financial reasons. There is nothing I can do about it. It is a shame that there is so much emphasis and talk about the situation."

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Campbell was arrested in connection with a stabbing outside a nightclub.

The 28-year-old was arrested on Thursday in Blackpool and he was then handed over to detectives at the Metropolitan Police who are investigating the stabbing of a man outside the Crescent Club in West Kensington in January.

Campbell was later released on bail.

A Met spokesman said: "On April 22, a 28-year-old man was arrested in Blackpool in connection with a stabbing at a nightclub on Northend Road, W14.

"The incident is alleged to have occurred on January 10. He was taken to a West London police station and later bailed to return pending further inquiries."
