Forest edged a step closer to securing third spot in the table after strolling to a 3-0 home win over Plymouth Argyle, whose demotion to League One had already been confirmed.

Nicky Maynard scored a goal in each half as Bristol City maintained their position in the top half of the table after a 2-1 home win over Derby County, who scored a late consolation through Stephen Pearson.

Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan was denied a victory against his former club as Aron Gunnarsson's equaliser earned Coventry City a 1-1 draw at The Riverside.

Mikele Leigertwood struck the only goal of the game after 27 minutes as Queens Park Rangers enjoyed a 1-0 success away to Barnsley.

Shelton Martis struck an 89th minute winner as Doncaster Rovers edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against Scunthorpe United at the Keepmoat Stadium.
