Jermaine Beckford has admitted the lure of Leicester's potential was crucial in his decision to drop down a division.

The 27-year-old joined Everton last season on a free transfer from Leeds and managed to snare 10 goals in 38 games for the Toffees.

Leicester turned their attentions to Beckford - who has an impressive scoring record outside the Premier League - after they were thwarted in their attempts to prise Nicky Maynard from Bristol City.

"The size of the club attracted me as well as the manager and what he wants to achieve here at Leicester and I see the club going places. We will go for the title."

Under the stewardship of Sven Goran Eriksson, they have spent lavishly in the Championship in their pursuit of promotion, something which has not gone unnoticed by their latest acquisition.

Attracted

"The size of the club attracted me as well as the manager and what he wants to achieve here at Leicester and I see the club going places. We will go for the title," he told the club's official website.

"It was very difficult to turn it down and it will be very exciting to work with Sven Goran Eriksson. I can't wait to get started."

Eriksson was delighted to finally get a striker that can lead their assault on the Championship title after a summer of frustration in his search.

And he believes the acquisition of a Premier League striker sends out a clear message of intent.

"The message that is loud and clear is that a Premier League footballer of Jermaine's undoubted talent is keen to join us," he said.

"This says a great deal about the ambition of Leicester City and the desire of everyone here to achieve success."
