Histon caused the first giant-killing of the afternoon in the first round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over League Two outfit Shrewsbury.

The Southern League Premier Division minnows booked their place in the second round courtesy of Ian Cambridge's early goal and Charles Liban's late strike.

Cambridge found the net after just four minutes to give Histon the lead and they were made to hang on for the rest of the contest.

Shrewsbury threw everything into attack in a bid to save themselves, but they could not find an equaliser.

Histon made the game safe deep into injury time with Liban producing a tremendous volley from the edge of the area.

Halifax were another side to cause an upset as they dumped Cambridge United out of the Cup in a 3-1 home win.

Goals from Martin Foster, Craig Midgley and Neil Ross saw off the challenge of their League Two counterparts, whose goal came from Shane Tudor. 

Hinckley United were another underdog in celebration as they knocked out League One side Torquay 2-0.

Goals from Richard Lavery and Neil Cartwright sending the home side in to unexpected joy.

Aldershot proved too much for Canvey Island on home soil as they cruised to a 4-0 success - with all the goals coming in an impressive second-half display.

A late goal from Marvin Robinson secured an impressive 1-0 victory for Rushden & Diamonds at Valley Parade.

High flying Bristol Rovers were denied a place in the next round after Brendan McGill's goal for Carlisle cancelled out Richard Walker's opener.

Bury had far too much firepower for Vauxhall Motors as they cruised to a 5-2 success at Gigg Lane.

Dwayne Mattis netted a double and further goals from Chris Porter, Dave Challiner and in-form Dave Nugent secured a successful passage for the North West minnows.
