Hull City forward Craig Fagan will be sidelined for longer than the club initially believed due to a broken leg.

Fagan suffered the injury when he was kicked by Newcastle United midfielder Danny Guthrie towards the end of Hull's 2-1 win at St James' Park earlier this month.

He has undergone an operation on the injury, with Tigers boss Phil Brown admitting the club feared Fagan may have also damaged ankle ligaments.

Though there was no problem with Fagan's ankle, the former Derby County man will be back later than the previously predicted three-month timescale.

Downside

"Craig had an operation yesterday," Brown told the club's official website on Tuesday.

"We put a camera into his ankle because there was a suspected rupture of a ligament. But the upshot of the whole operation was that things are a lot better than what we thought.

"Obviously the downside is that he's still got a broken leg. The expected return date for Craig will probably be two to three weeks later than we first thought.

"We're probably looking at Craig being back on the training ground in four to six weeks' time with a view to him playing some part in the second (group of) 10 games of the season.

"Craig's rehabilitation begins almost immediately."
