Phil Brown believes managers should be allowed a 'cooling-down period' prior to post-match interviews.

The Hull City boss was this week found guilty of improper conduct by the Football Association for comments he made about referee Mike Riley.

Brown stated after his team's FA Cup defeat to Arsenal in March that Riley had been swayed by the Emirates Stadium crowd, describing the official's performance as 'disgraceful'.

He has now been fined £2,500 by the Football Association but is not sure the punishment is fair.

Brown regrets being so critical of Riley but maintains that it would not have happened had he been given 30 minutes to calm down and consider his comments more carefully.

High-pressure situation

"I was disappointed to be found guilty because I thought it was a real high-pressure situation straight after a game," he told Sky Sports News.

"I really do think that a precedent should be set that you guys [the television companies] should not be allowed to shove a camera in Premier League managers' faces immediately after a game.

"I think there should be a cooling-down period, there should be 30 minutes after a game of football that a manager can allow himself [time].

"I think a precedent should be set that a cooling-down period is a must."

Brown added: "I think I was led down a garden path. It was never my intention to accuse anybody of cheating or a lack of integrity, and unfortunately it has cost me £2,500."
