Andy van der Meyde says he would rather return to his native Holland than join Premier League strugglers Hull.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since his summer release from Everton and it is thought The Tigers were willing to offer a £18,000-a-week deal until the end of the season.

The winger has spent time with Sam Allardyce's Blackburn Rovers in a bid to secure a permanent deal but the Dutchman failed to impress.

He has played down the chance of signing for Phil Brown's side though, and says a move back home is more likely.

"I will return to the Netherlands," he told the Daily Star. "I could go to Hull, but I can't see it happening.

"I miss Holland and just want to play football and not really earn an absurd salary."

Van der Meyde made just 20 league appearances in four years for the Toffees in a spell that was blighted by off-the-field troubles.
