Hull City midfielder Stephen Hunt admits he will be delighted when the transfer deadline arrives so that speculation surrounding his future will subside.

The Republic of Ireland international has been the subject of four bids from Wolves during the winter transfer window, with a final, verbal £5million offer having been snubbed on Monday.

Hull have understandably been unprepared to sell one of their star players to a Premier League relegation rival and Hunt has remained dignifiedly quiet throughout his club's dialogue with Wolves.

The 28-year-old has now offered a rare insight into his future and he insists he is happy at the KC Stadium as he waits for the transfer rumour mill to come to a comparative halt after 5pm on Monday.

"I gather the clubs have been talking a bit but for what I know, I'm staying," said Hunt.

Relief

"In the past I've got involved in transfers and mucked my head up but I've pretty much said nothing this time, got my head down and let my football do the talking.

"I'm happy at Hull City. When 5pm comes this evening it will probably be a bit of a relief."

Meanwhile, Hull assistant manager Brian Horton hopes Hunt can help his side to Premier League survival.

"The club have received a verbal offer of £5million for Stephen Hunt. This has been completely rejected and we're not expecting any further bids," he said.

"That's the end of it I suppose, unless they come in with something very quickly. That's how it stands.

"Unless it's an offer you feel is one you completely have to take, no manager wants to sell his best players so that is the end of the story with Stephen Hunt.

"You heard the press he got from one of his former team-mates, the goalkeeper (Marcus) Hahnemann at the weekend about what a good player he was and if they got him they would stay up and if we kept him we would stay up. Let's hope that's the case."
