Hull City boss Nigel Pearson is hopeful that Paul McShane's Carling Cup injury will not prove serious.

The defender had to be replaced by Anthony Gardner after just 20 minutes of the shock 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

While the Tigers are still waiting to find out the exact nature of his injury, Pearson believes the prompt substitution of the defender will have limited the damage.

The Hull boss told the club's official website: "We took him off pretty quickly.

"He got a kick on the back of his leg and he also felt a sharp pain, so we'll have to wait and see.

"We'll review it again today and hopefully we caught it early enough to minimise any damage.

"It's another setback that we have to get over."
