Gray: Expectant

Former Leeds United boss Eddie Gray does not believe the club will have problems being 'the big club in the division'.

Leeds have endured a difficult summer after being relegated to League One and then having 15 points docked ahead of the new season.

But, while many clubs in the division will be treating the games against Leeds as their cup finals, Gray believes their status will simply be an advantage.

"I don't think being the big club in the division makes it tricky," he told Leeds Guide magazine.

"If you're a big football club, you've got to play like a big football club.

"Manchester United are the big club in the Premier League. Everyone wants to beat them, but they should have the resources, the fanbase and the players to overcome that.

"Even away from Elland Road, the majority of grounds they go to, they'll have more fans than the opposition."

Gray does acknowledge, however, that the transfer embargo placed upon the club has made it very difficult for manager Dennis Wise to get ready in time for the new season.

"There's no doubt it's upset Dennis Wise's preparations - he's had his mind made up more or less what he wants to do since the club got relegated, but his hands have been tied."
