Boss Danny Wilson has ruled out a return for former front man Adam Boyd, but admits Hartlepool United need a proven goalscorer.

The League Two outfit suffered a poor run in October with just one victory in six outings in all competitions, which has seen them fall to 14th in the table.

Pool scored just three goals in that time and were disappointingly knocked out of the Football League Trophy on Tuesday night, in a 3-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers, and Wilson concedes he is now on the lookout for a striker.

"We are trying to get players in as soon as we can," Wilson told Hartlepool Today.

"I do think we need a shake-up, I think everybody knows that.

"We need a prolific goalscorer because we haven't got one at the club at the moment.

"The sooner we can do that the better but it is easier said than done, clubs are reluctant to let their best players go, especially goalscorers.

"But we are enquiring all the time and have the finger on the pulse."

Boyd meanwhile, has been on the fringes of Luton Town's squad so far this season, since leaving Victoria Park for £500,000 this summer.

But Wilson has dismissed suggestions that he could move for the Kenilworth Road man, who scored 60 goals in his six seasons with United.

"That would be going back to square one," he added.

"We can't bring people in to get them fit, we need people who are ready to play."

Barnet are Pool's next opponents in the league on Saturday, though they are likely to be without injured forward Joel Porter (ankle) and defender John Brackstone (groin) who both picked up injuries in midweek.
