Tilson: Rovers deserved win

Southend boss Steve Tilson conceded his troops were beaten by the better side following their 5-1 hammering by Doncaster.

Following a goalless first leg in their League One play-off semi-final the winners of Friday's clash at The Keepmoat Stadium would set up a Wembley date against Leeds United later this month.

James Coppinger was the hero for the South Yorkshire side with a fine hat-trick, leaving Tilson to concede Doncaster deserved to progress to the final.

"They were the better side tonight. I thought they played some fantastic stuff and deserved the win," he told Sky Sports.

Deserved

"In hindsight if Walker doesn't hit the bar and it goes in maybe it's a different game, but over the 90 minutes I thought they played really well and deserved the win.

"The one good thing was we right to the end and fair play to the lads they've kept going. It was a tough game for us tonight.

"They are the best footballing side in our league and they've proved that tonight."
