Luka Modric scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur, and Darren Bent hit a hat-trick, in a 5-1 victory over Leyton Orient.

Bent had struck four goals against Norwich City on Monday night and produced an explosive second-half display after Orient had taken a surprise early lead.

The League One club went ahead after just four minutes when Jason Demetriou picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and curled a fine shot into the top corner.

The first period was pretty even, but it was the half-time introduction of Giovani dos Santos which sparked Spurs into life.

Within a minute of the restart, Bent had scored his first of the night when he stabbed home after Orient keeper Glenn Morris parried Dos Santos' corner.

Just two minutes later and Spurs were in front when Didier Zokora got down the right and whipped in a cross for Aaron Lennon to head home.

New signing Modric grabbed his first goal in Spurs colours on 52 minutes when his shot, from Lennon's cross, flew in via a deflection off Brian Saah.

On the hour mark, substitute Jermaine Jenas released Bent in behind the defence and he rounded Morris to score.

The in-form striker completed his hat-trick on 77 minutes when he crashed his shot in off the underside of the crossbar following more good work from Dos Santos.
