Joel Porter is confident team-mate James Brown can play at a higher level after the Hartlepool United striker was linked with a move to Celtic.

Brown committed his future to Hartlepool over the weekend by signing a new long-term contract with the League One club.

However, he has been linked with a £3million switch to Celtic and impressed against Premier League club West Brom in Tuesday's Carling Cup win.

Porter is a fan of his strike partner and believes Brown has the qualities to make an impact on a bigger stage.

Fantastic player

"James Brown is an excellent player," said Porter.

"I think he could play at the highest level, there's no doubt about it.

"Somebody has obviously got to take a chance on him, but he is a fantastic player - left, right foot, can score with both feet, great in the air, works ever so hard and brings other people into play - there is not much more you want from a young player.

"If he can get a chance and start training and playing with the best in the country and play in the Premier League, you are going to bring even more out of him."
